Volunteer Spotlight
Fall 2008:
Dr. Frank R. Freemon
Church Affiliation: Brentwood First Presbyterian Church
Profession: Neurologist
Role at Clinic: Volunteer Specialist
Began Volunteering: 2001
What brought you to Siloam? I worked for Dr. Gregory at the VA. I heard of his experiences, as well as Dr. Haynes’ experiences at Siloam and thought I would like
to be a part of it.
What keeps you coming back? My wife needs some time alone.
Could you share a memorable experience from your service at Siloam? The old building was terrible, just terrible… and yet, I miss it. It was like on the old
movies when they say, “Let’s put on a show.” All types of people would show up at
the clinic and come together and make it work.
I’ve met interesting people here, doctors and patients. One patient I saw was a rare case, for me at least. A lady who was a missionary brought
in a friend from Africa. While she was here, her husband, also from Africa, was complaining of acute belly pain. As a neurologist, I am really
never called in for belly pain. I could tell from the examination, though that this was a classic case of appendicitis. The man was in surgery
that same day for appendicitis… not a typical day for this head doctor.
