What brought you to Siloam?

Dr. Guv Pennington and Keri Turbeville

Siloam gives us the chance to do something for society without a lot of explanation and red tape that seems to accompany what managed care, TnnCare and even Medicare will allow us to do for our needy patients. I cannot think of a more needy and grateful group than those targeted by Siloam. I feel it is a privilege to be able to work there. Guv Pennington, MD

Dr. John Thompson, also a Siloam Family Health Center Board member

The resolute commitment to Siloam by some of my medical colleagues impressed me greatly and led me to learn more about Siloam and to volunteer. The volunteer coordinator keeps me coming back. John Thompson, MD (Note: John's wife, Gail an RN also volunteers at Siloam.)

Laura McCullough

I learned about Siloam here at Heritage Medical. I think Keri Turbeville received word from someone there that you needed volunteers and I became interested. I come back becuase of the patients and the loving staff at Siloam. I get a real sense of doing a good deed and sharing the love of Christ. Laura McCullough

Dr. Trey Harrell

I came to Siloam becuase Siloam came to me. I returned to Nashville to practice in 1997 and some time around 2000 I heard about Siloam from a doctor I was working with. I never took the initiative to volunteer until around late 2001 or early 2002, when Dr. Brevard Haynes came over to our practice at Heritage to look for new volunteers. I had just returned from a medical mission trip to Honduras in August 2001 and the idea of working in a clinic with patients from all over the world really appealed to me. Since then I have tried to volunteer about once a month, with one 4 or 5 month holiday when our daughter was born! I keep coming back becuase the experience constantly reminds me of the importnace of incorporating my Christian faith with my practice, and I remember what a small little place I occupy in this great, big world. Trey Harrell, MD

Gail Thompson, RN

Our church has been involved with numerous mission opportunities in West Virginia and Honduras. Becuase of family and work responsibilities I have not been able to participate. I have known Brevard Haynes for many years and heard about Siloam through him. I thought that there was such a need in our own community that Siloam would be the perfect place to share my love of nursing and minister to those less fortunate. I started working once a month on Saturday mornings. It is the people that Siloam serves that keep me coming back as well as the wonderful staff and volunteers. Gail Thompson, RN

Dr. Tom Patten and son, Daniel

I had heard about Siloam for many years and when I

found out they were looking for volunteers thought it would be a good opportunity for me and my son to do a service project together, particularly since he is considering a career in medicine. It has been a great experience for both of us, not only treating the patients there but meeting the interesting and dedicated staff and volunteers who work there regularly. It's been an honor to be associated with the clinic.Tom Patten, MD (Note: Tom's son, Daniel, is also a Siloam volunteer)

My mom discovered Siloam through an organization she is with and introduced my dad and me to it. We were very impressed and have started volunteering here on a regular basis. Both the staff and patients are great and keep us coming back. Daniel Patten
