STUDENTS
Preceptorships at Siloam Health are more than just practical training; they focus on person-centered care and are designed to disrupt the idea of “health care as usual.”
Practicing the art of whole-person care.
Siloam preceptorships provide students of all health disciplines and professions with practicum-based training in the overlapping domains of poverty medicine, cross-cultural health care, and behavioral health and spiritual care. Students at Siloam also receive practical training in how to work with an interpreter, understand a patient’s spiritual history, and work with an interdisciplinary team to maximize patient care.
Primary care preceptorships are offered for students in the following areas:
Types of Trainees
Trainees of all faith backgrounds are eligible to apply. Rotations of four weeks or longer are preferred. Although students pursuing all specialties are welcome to apply, preference is given to those pursuing a career in a primary care field among the underserved. Note: This is a preceptorship program and we do not have any internship opportunities at this time.
Preceptorships
All preceptorships are unpaid and all expenses, including temporary housing related to the rotation, are the full responsibility of the trainee. Availability is limited and rotation slots are usually reserved months to years in advance.
FAQ: Can I shadow in the clinic?
We do allow student volunteers to shadow a clinical staff member for one shift after they have completed 40 hours of volunteer service.
If you’re interested in becoming a volunteer, you can fill out the online application on the Volunteers page.
“Siloam provided me with insight, not only to medically relevant issues but also to the importance of providing holistic care. The notion of ‘personalized medicine’ is touted in the modern era, but at Siloam it is actually materialized.”
