AMPLIFY NASHVILLE HONOREES
CORDIA HARRINGTON
2022 BRIDGE BUILDER
PRESENTED BY BELMONT UNIVERSITY
As the founder and CEO of Crown Bakeries (formerly Tennessee Bun Co.), Cordia Harrington has made a lasting impact – both on the economic landscape of Nashville and for many immigrants who call our city home.
Cordia is known around Nashville as “The Bun Lady,” a nickname given to her by the Leadership Nashville Class of 2000. Crown Bakeries is a high-speed bakery that bakes over 8 million pieces a day for elite customers and employs more than 500, many of whom were born outside of the United States. Since founding the company in 1996, Cordia has remained committed to welcoming and empowering Nashville’s international community. Today, more than 85% of her workforce is made up of a diverse population, including women and immigrants. There are over 10 languages spoken, many religious traditions recognized … and a wide variety of potluck dishes shared! In Cordia’s decades-long relationship with her international employees, she has welcomed them and their extended families into her home, provided scholarships for education, and been involved in their personal lives – from birthdays to funerals and everything in between!
In more ways than one, the legacy that Cordia has built as a successful businesswoman is matched by her legacy as a supporter of Nashville’s international community. She is a steadfast friend and mentor to many, always striving to build a Nashville that empowers all.
