AMPLIFY NASHVILLE HONOREES
Mohamed-Shukri Hassan
2020 GOOD NEIGHBOR
Born in Somalia, Mohamed-Shukri Hassan first came to the United States as a refugee and it is this experience as a New American that has led him to a life of advocacy on behalf of Nashville’s international community. Through business endeavors, nonprofit organizations, and even local government advisory boards, Mohamed has been a vocal supporter and constant friend to our city’s immigrant and refugee community.
Mohamed is the founder of both the Daban Group, a business consulting company that helps other immigrants build businesses of their own, as well as the New American Development Center, a nonprofit that supports Nashville’s vast array of immigrant entrepreneurs. He was the founding member of the American Muslim Advisory Council and has served on boards for the Nashville Entrepreneur Center, Mayor’s Office of New Americans, and the Tennessee Immigrant and Refugee Rights Coalition.
In many ways, Mohamed has helped shape how Nashville welcomes immigrants and empowers them to thrive and contribute to the city’s economic and cultural landscape. And in everything he does, Mohamed remains a consistent friend and encourager, helping others to become the driver of their own destiny, regardless of where they started.
